Knowing BITS bit by bit!

STD XII students of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School recently visited the prestigious K.K. Birla Campus of the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Vasco. The students were accompanied by the Director of the Institute, Mr. Vyankatesh Prabhudesai, the Administrative officer Mr. M.B.S. Kakodkar and teacher, Ms Hetal Gangani.

A tour of the expansive campus led the students first, to the workshops of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Boyhood dreams were fulfilled when students witnessed first hand working with lathes, mills, electroplating apparatus, welding arcs and carpentry machines. Students were then shown high tech CNC Machines programmed to eliminate most of the mechanical work involved in manufacturing. A visit to the laboratories of Fluid mechanics and thermodynamics brought to life much of the physics that seemed so dry in the NCERT books. It was an amazing experience to see the concepts and details taught to us in school actually come to life at these laboratories and experiment departments. The visit to workshops was well co-ordinated by Prof. Sachin Waigaonkar. He personally explained most of the processes that were being conducted by the students in the laboratories.
The students were shown a demonstration of how the Electrical and Electronic Engineering labs function. Oscilloscopes, digital and analog signals and complex integrated circuits highly intrigued the young aspirants even more towards the field.

The tour ended with a presentation made by the Dean of the Institute Prof. D.M. Kulkarni himself. The students listened to the history of the coming about of this amazing institute BITS PILANI. It was interesting to know how the four world-renowned campuses are interconnected with top grade technology. The unique degree program, highly flexible and custom-made time-table and syllabus and the innovative concept of the Practice School gave the students a better idea of what to look ahead for.

High quality education, top grade technology, amazing teachers and mentors and an integrated course structure are all associated in the making BITS what it is!

As a student myself, I was filled with new hope and enthusiasm to become an engineer – with a million opportunities to explore, discover, build and create!
