“An entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it and exploits it as an opportunity.”
This, according to our guest speaker Mr. Rajkumar Kamat, was what defined an entrepreneur. After a warm welcome by our director, Mr. Vyankatesh Prabhudesai, and a formal introduction by Ms. Hetal Gangani, he began by reminiscing on his childhood, and the trials and tribulations he had to face before he could follow his dream of opening his own company.
We learnt of the challenges a new entrepreneur may face: overwhelming competition, conflicts with business partners, and the absence of profits. “Every problem has an opportunity,” he said, “There may be times in your life where you may feel like you can’t do this anymore. This is a crucial time. If you endure this, you’ll be able to survive it all.” Indeed, these are important life lessons.
By means of a simple, but powerful Powerpoint presentation, he threw light upon the pros of entrepreneurship. One can follow their own passions and dreams by starting his/her own company. The journey may be hard, but the returns and more importantly, the satisfaction that one feels in doing what they are passionate about makes it enjoyable.
But why entrepreneurship? “You can gain recognition by establishing your own company and excelling in your field,” he answered, “and also, earn the satisfaction of contributing to the nation’s economy by becoming a job creator.”
How do we start our own company? “Gain experience first,” was his response. He emphasized on the importance of passion, and of a good education. There was emphasis on getting a mentor, and the crucial need for proper funding.
The session ended with an interactive Question and Answer session coordinated by Mr. Vyankatesh Prabhudesai, and a vote of thanks by Nehara Pandey, one of our very own students.
Mr. Rajkumar Kamat struck a chord in all of us by inspiring us to follow our dreams and to listen to our hearts.
