“Aqua – Guard”
Sandeep Nadkarni, Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department, Govt. Of Goa, visited Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School on the 13th April ’16 for an interactive session with the students of STD XII.
The session began with a power point presentation prepared by Mr.Nadkarni. He gave an in depth insight about the various parameters involved in maintaining, developing and balancing one of the most important Natural resources of our lives – Water. He gave the students an overview about the water scenario at the national and state level. Speaking from his vast experience, he discussed with the students the current scenario of Our State with regards to the water resource projects coming up.
He showed the students, the various dams in Goa and made the students familiar with the technicalities involved in its maintenance. He said that Goa has sufficient water resources except for some stress areas, on which the department is working out its plan.
The students were eager to know about concepts like Rain water harvesting and how it can be implemented. They were also curious to know about how wells are maintained. Mr. Nadkarni said that people need to take the PWD’s permission to construct a well so that the consumption can be monitored. The department needs to keep track of this for the right balance to be maintained in the water table and to check that the resources are not overused.
Mr. Nadkarni answered all the queries with a lot of enthusiasm. The interaction went on for over an hour and the Director, Mr. Vyankatesh Prabhudesai coordinated the question and answer session.
The interaction ended with a message from Mr. Nadkarni. He told the students to value this important resource and use it wisely.
