Aryaans Institute organized an online guest lecture on 25 January 2026 for the benefit of its students, featuring Hon’ble Justice Ferdino Rebello, former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, as the distinguished speaker. The lecture focused on constitutional values, the rule of law, ethics, and the role of institutions in nation building. Justice Rebello commenced the session with an explanation of the Indian Constitution, emphasizing the significance of liberty in a democratic framework. He highlighted that liberty empowers citizens to freely articulate their views and thoughts and observed that liberty lies in the hearts and minds of people, and if it ceases to exist there, no Constitution or law can restore it.
The Hon’ble Speaker elaborated on the structure of the Constitution, beginning with the Preamble, and explained the functioning of the three pillars of democracy the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary. He outlined their respective roles and responsibilities and described the Judiciary as the watchdog of the Constitution. The lecture further covered India’s federal structure, with a clear explanation of how the Union List and State List contribute to the federal character of the nation.
Justice Rebello also discussed important constitutional developments, including the Forty-Second Amendment, which introduced the ideals of socialism, secularism, unity, and integrity into the Constitution. He provided valuable insights into the anti-defection law and its significance in maintaining constitutional stability. The session further addressed constitutional and fundamental rights, with particular emphasis on the rights of minorities. He explained Article 26, which guarantees every section of citizens the right to establish and manage religious and charitable institutions, subject to constitutional restrictions, and briefly referred to other constitutional provisions safeguarding citizens’ rights.
Throughout the lecture, strong emphasis was placed on ethics and moral values. Justice Rebello highlighted the importance of maintaining high moral standards in public and professional life and stressed the inner satisfaction that comes from knowing that one has acted rightly. He enriched the session by sharing experiences from his judicial career, which provided students with practical insights and reinforced the relevance of constitutional principles in real-life situations.
The lecture proved to be intellectually enriching and inspirational, leaving a lasting impact on the students. It significantly contributed to enhancing their understanding of constitutional principles, ethical conduct, and the functioning of democratic institutions.
