The session began with an address by Mr. Ishaan, whose journey from Aryaans to Texas Instruments offered a compelling introduction to the world of clean energy and engineering. He provided an engaging explanation of what engineering truly entails and spoke about his work with clarity and enthusiasm. The talk opened with a concise overview of the electric power grid, including key concepts such as three-phase AC power, voltage, frequency, and the power triangle.
He discussed the major components of a power system—generation, transmission, consumption, and energy storage—and highlighted the advantages and limitations of various energy sources. The session also touched upon future technologies shaping the field, such as Fast Breeder Reactors (FBRs), fusion reactors, HVDC transmission, and FACTS devices. On the consumption side, emerging areas like demand response, data centres, and electric vehicles were explored.
A significant portion of the session focused on the Indian power market, giving us an understanding of how India maintains energy surplus, the role of coal as the baseload source, the monopoly of transmission held by PGCIL, and the challenges that lead to large-scale blackouts. The clarity with which these concepts were explained made the subject highly accessible and insightful. His willingness and enthusiasm to address numerous questions added great value to the interaction.
Following this, Ms. Renee joined the session and offered a completely different yet equally impactful perspective. She spoke about her journey as an Ironman athlete—an achievement that demands extraordinary endurance, discipline, and mental strength. She shared the motivation that drove her towards this goal and explained the practical aspects of her preparation, including diet, training schedules, and practice routines. She also provided a brief overview of her academic journey at IIT Madras and how she balances rigorous academics with demanding athletic commitments.
Her experiences highlighted the importance of resilience and consistent effort, making her talk both inspiring and deeply relatable. Both speakers brought unique viewpoints—one rooted in technical expertise and the other in personal endurance and discipline—but together they created a session that was dynamic, meaningful, and enriching.
Overall, the insights shared offered a wide spectrum of learning, from the rapidly evolving clean-energy landscape to the determination required to pursue excellence in any field. The session left the audience with much to reflect upon and a renewed sense of motivation.
